Photography has been a part of my life since early childhood, but other than an occasional dabble with film and early digital cameras, it never became something I could immerse myself in until I retired.

Several semesters at Delaware County Community College learning B&W photography and darkroom printing set me off with new purpose. Initially I photographed landscape exclusively, travelling both here in the US and back home to Scotland, mainly the Isle of Skye - one of my favorite places.

After several years I lost my enthusiasm for ‘Yet another postcard image’ a realization that came to me as I stood by a lake in Acadia watching the cold dawn break over a bucolic scene, complete with the obligatory fall colors and early morning mist - I had made the exact same image eleven years before..

Perhaps it was time for change. I now focus on (pun intended) B&W film and digital images of mostly old structures and street scenes as I travel and wander the neighborhoods I like to frequent. A much more leisurely and contemplative process, enhanced by the discovery of alternative print processes such as Platinum/Palladium and Cyanotype, both of which produce beautiful prints, which for me is what photography is all about.

That, and the beauty of old cameras….
